Previously with: Initially Stéphane Cournot focused on commercial litigation and bankruptcy law as an associate with the Paris based law firm of Bernard Lyonnet ("ancien agréé" – a lawyer admitted to appear in the Commercial Court) from 1969 to 1975. In 1976 he joined the firm of Giroux, Serrero Buhaigiar where he turned his practice towards corporate law. Mr. Cournot then took up residence in the United States in 1978 where he earned a Master's degree in comparative law from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and passed the District of Colombia bar exam while working with the US law firm of Arter, Hadden, & Hemmendinger both in their Cleveland office and their Washington D.C. office until 1981.
In 1982, upon his return to France, he founded his own law firm Cournot-Guillerm-Kirk which evolved over the next 30 years to become Cournot Association d'Avocats also known as Cournot Avocats.
In January 2012, after 30 years in his own firm Cournot Avocats, Stéphane Cournot joined Bernard-Hertz-Béjot as a senior partner.
